Here’s another one. Perhaps not a deadly threat, but a threat to be concerned about if you have young children, the elderly, or anyone with a compromised immune system in your household.

The FDA announced yesterday that foods containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein manufactured by Las Vegas-based Basic Food Flavors Inc. are being recalled.

It seems that after finding salmonella in one of the foods, they investigated, tested more foods, and ultimately found salmonella in the company’s processing equipment.

Once again, the safest way to eat is to cook your own food. It’s not always fun, and it’s definitely not always fast, but you and your family will get better nutrition.

The FDA – charged with protecting us – was complicit in this crime.

“On May 1, 2009 the FDA sent out a warning to consumers to stop using Hydroxycut Products; dietary supplements used for weight loss as fat burners, as energy-enhancers, as low carb diet aids, and for water loss under the Lovate and MuscleTech brand names. Thus far Hydroxycut has been linked to at least one death and twenty three reports of serious health problems; consumers who use the products are at risk of serious liver injury.”

This site issues the warning and invites you to contact them if you’ve experienced any of the symptoms listed. It appears to be a company interested in filing a class action lawsuit.
